MCKK Annual Sports Day

MCKK Annual Sports Day,  Part 1

The Records…

This year’s MCKK Annual Sports Day will be held on Saturday, 21 June 2008 at 2.30 pm, and of course at the Big Field. I still remember those good old days in the 1970s, when we looked forward for this annual event—we were treated with goodies, including an apple and ice cream!  And of course the cheering for the respective houses was fun, especially when your house eventually emerged as champion.

Ever wondered what happened to those great athletes of MCKK? One person I recall was the 1974 champion cross country runner, Azahari Hussin, who was shot in Jakarta for involvement in JI bombings.  He was a great runner, but I didn’t expect him to still be on the run, 30 years after! May Allah bless his soul.

For a list of sports events and the record holders, since formal sports days were organised at The Malay College, please click to this link: http://jakli7276.blogspot.com/.  If any of the record holders are still alive, contact MCOBA Secretariat and update your current particulars; if you’re not a member yet, perhaps Prez Dato’ Seri Megat may offer you a free membership…

MCKK Annual Sports Day,  Part 2

The Sportsman of the Year, Victor Ludorum…

I wish I were good in sports, and had my name engraved on the plaque hanging in the Hargreaves Hall.  But I only managed to secure 5 high points during sports heats (that’s individual maximum, by the way) for Mohd Shah house, plus another 1 point for cross-country.  That was about it.  Blame it on the heavy balls and bums.

For a list of Victor Ludorum since formal sports days were organised at The Malay College, please click to this link: http://jakli7276.blogspot.com/.  If you are on the list, contact MCOBA Secretariat and update your current particulars; if you’re not a member yet, perhaps Prez Dato’ Seri Megat may offer you a free membership too…

MCKK Annual Sports Day,  Part 3

The Champion House…

Ahmad house is not the greatest after all… And, come on, Prez Dato’ Seri Megat Najmuddin, don’t go around telling, “Sulaiman house is the greatest…during my time, it’s the champion house.”  Check the records.  Since post-war MCKK Sports Day from 1947 till 2007, Ahmad house has won only 15 times, just one time more than Sulaiman house.  Sulaiman house was strong for the first 5 years, being champions from 1947-1951 (perhaps Pak Ungku was still around in those early years…); but became champions only once during the 1960s—in 1966, after Dato’ Prez left college! Ha ha ha…

For Idris house, their outings were not that bad as we perceived—12 championships so far (unfortunately, there were last most of the rest of times!).

Now…the drum rolls, please… the most number of championships:  MOHD SHAH house, with 20 titles.  Steady Mohd Shah, steady aku.

MCKK Updates

Dateline: 18 May 2008

Cikgu Samsudin, senior assistant 1(academic), has been transferred to MOE Pendidikan Khas, to handle programs for Jabatan Penjara.  Well, he had long enough experience at MCKK to handle all sorts of cases…he’ll do okay in his new assignment with Penjara.  All the best to Cikgu Samsudin.

Annual Speech & Sports Day 2008

DYTM Raja Muda Raja Nazrin has consented to grace the Speech Day and Prize-giving Ceremony on June 21, 2008.  This year, the College has requested MCOBA and PIBG to send representatives to be coopted into the main organizing committee for this annual function.  Function will start at 9.30 am and end at 12.30; there will be the usual cadet parade, exhibition, plus the laying of foundation for the new TAR Hall.  At 2.30pm, the annual Sports Day begins.  Old Boys and parents are invited.

MCKK-KYS Weekend 2008

Debate took place at the Hargreaves Hall in that Saturday morning.  In the evening, the annual rugby challenge started at 5.00 pm.  A couple of boys were present, including MCOBA VP Aziz Ishak.  The MCKK boys were good at their game, but fitness seemed to be lacking.  Perhaps, the mid-term exams during the last two weeks had taken a toll on their game.  Final score: MCKK 34 KYS 17.

MCKK-Vajiravudh College, Bangkok Student Exchange 2008

A week before, a contingent of 15 students and 2 teachers from Vajiravudh College, Bangkok visited MCKK for a one-week long stay.  They were taken around Perak and Penang for excursions and participated in College's daily activities.  On their way home on May 8, MCOBA hosted a dinner at the Penthouse, MCOBA Building, and put them up at Singgahsana Hotel for the night before their departure home on May 9, 2008.

Student Exchange: Modern School, India visits MCKK

A delegate from Modern School, India comprising 12 Hindustani students (males and females! like Kajol, Rani Mukharjee, Aishawariya, etc) and 2 teachers arrived early Saturday morning a week stay at MCKK. They spent the whole Saturday around KL, arrived at KK at midnight; on Sunday, they were taken for excursion at Penang.

Wind Orchestra Finals 2008

The date for the Finals seems to clash with the Speech Day, on 21 June 2008.  MOE had wanted to shift the date to 22 June (Sunday), but looks like the Minister can only make it on the 21 June.  Anyway, the boys were already busy preparing for the d-day, when I visited them last weekend.  This week, they will receive a new clarinet and a new flute, courtesy of MCOBA and class of ’62.  Cikgu Rosman has penned a special score using the beautiful sound of these 2 instruments.  For those interested to watch the Finals, check with MCOBA for tickets, perhaps a week before the final countdown at Putrajaya International Convention Center.

Youth International Summit @MCKK, tentatively mid-August 2008

MCKK and MILES, with the support from MOE and MCOBA, are planning to hold an international leadership summit at MCKK around mid-August (after trial exams). This will involve international representatives from Thailand, Vietnam, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, India, China and Singapore (maybe, Japan). We will also invite Centenary Schools like PFS, VI, KE; SBP Premier (TKC, STAR, SDAR, STF, SSP); KK Schools (SMCKK, RPK ); others (KYS, KTJ, RMC).  There will keynote address, workshops, pleno sessions; community works; visits; Royal dinner(?); etc.  We need help financially.

Project ERTI: Wad Penyayang

This week the Form 4 Science 1 students’ turn to visit the Wad Penyayang at Hospital KK.  On the Sunday morning, the boys were all dressed up in their quad-colors T-shirt and white long pants, some their guitars and a flute to entertain the patients at the geriatics wards.

Hari Cemerlang SBP 2008

Will be held at SM Sultan Abdul Halim, Jitra from 22 to 27 May, 2008.  MCKK debating teams will be participting.  The Cagers will be defending their title.

MCKK-Vajiravudh Annual Rugby 2008 @ Bangkok

This annual event will take place in early July. For golfers, check out notices and updates from Wan Katak.  Selangor Timur chapter too will be organizing an over-land convoy.  From now on, the rugby boys will be busy sharpening their skills and tactics.  Ex-Cikgu Mustapha Ishak @MI @Watapha was around during the KYS game—he’s now a free agent staying in Taiping, and willing to help out the boys in preparing for the July countdown.

MCKK-VI Weekend 2008

Will be held in KL, after school break, around early June.
